Himalayan Valleys are home to several species of birds and animals. The origin of the Himalayan mountain range is the result of the collision of two massive pieces of land. A huge island, which is now known as the Indian subcontinent, used to be separate from the modern day Asia. It is believed that around 4 to 5 crore years back, this piece of land collided with Eurasia (the current Europe + Asia) due to a tectonic movement. This tremendous fusion of lands caused the sediments from the ocean to rise up, which led to the formation of the Himalaya.
The formation of the Himalaya gave a new direction to the human, animal and plant kingdoms. Some species became extinct, some hybridized, and some are still present in their original, prehistoric forms. Perhaps the most important aspect of living in Mandi is this proximity to nature and history. Humans have tried to diminish several evidences of nature and history all over the world, but a lot is still preserved in the Himalaya. I keep capturing the images of some freely flying birds near my home and office.
